This sexton is used for navingating on ships as they travel around on the ocean. My Dad’s dad gave it to him. I think he sailed on ships.
My great-grandad found these old Maori tools on a river bank. The top left one is an anchor for a canoe. The top right one is a really thin edged cutting tool. The bottom left one a like little carving tool and the bottom right one is a little ink well for storing the ink when making a tattoo or moko. They are very old and precious.

I wonder how people use a sextant to tell where they are going?

Awesome photographs Shaun. The sextant was used to navigate and give the position where the ship was. Poppa Bill would measure the horizon and where the sun was to help work out exactly where the ship was on the ocean. Great work Shaun.
