Active Listening

We have been learning about the things we need to do to listen actively to other people. When you listen well you look at the person who is talking, make eye contact and reflect on what the other person is saying.

We all made up a role play to show we knew what to do. Rachel is very good at actively listening. Look how well she brings George into the conversation.

This is an excellent role play. It is exactly what the teachers at my school have recently been speaking about - how to listen well so that we are able to have good conversations. Hopefully the children at my school will become great listeners - just like you! Well done!

Rachel made everyone feel valued and a part of the conversation by reflecting and asking further questions. Fantastic demonstration all three of you!

Role playing is a great way to demonstrate how to actively listen. I like how you practiced it after you went over it as a class.

Very nice idea. Listening is a very important skill. I have many students that could use more practice.

BTW I like how enthusiastic you are about sore feet.

This is a great example of active listening. It is not easy to do is it? We are also trying to develop this in our class.
Thanks very much for leaving a message on our blog about a podcast Jaydn and John did. They are in Year 7 at Intermediate now so we are going to let them know about your comment and hopefully their new school might let them reply.

Well done! Learners in our class have practiced SLANT=Sit up; Listen to the speaker; Ask and answer questions; Nod your head; Track the speaker. This helps middle schoolers learn one strategy for success in all classes.
