Maths Problem Solving

We have been working on Maths Problem Solving and have been using this wiki that Allanah made. At the same time Melville Intermediate made a video asking us to offer our solutions to this maths problem.

We had quite a bit of a problem with it with a variety of solutions and children are keen to find out which one was correct.

Allanah liked Georgia's solution of getting some flax from beside the river and plaiting it into a rope and pulling the canoe backwards and forwards. Excellent creativity. Here are some of the answers to the problem from all around the globe.

Allanh and Students - Thanks so much for putting Bradleys video on your site. It was wonderful to see it and I was with Bradley on Friday when we found the post on your site and its not an exaggeration to say that he was thrilled as I was to see it on such an influential blog. Thank you very, very much!

Allanah last year I visited Maungatapu class with my collection of maths based puzzles. All the puzzles are designed to teach problem solving strategies in a fun way. Have a look at my puzzling blog at puzzlingnelson.blogspot.com.
