We are learning how to make better photos. We are doing this by learning about the rule of thirds. We divided the photos into thirds and we made sure to put the subject of the photo where the third lines join up.
How did we go?

Make An Organised List
We have been problem solving for maths and today's activity was to make an organised list.
We had to find out how many different ways four children could stand for photographs and not repeat the photos.
Before we took the photos we got ourselves into groups and then we made our organised list- we listed the four people for the first photograph, then we wrote down four columns of combinations of people in order. Each person had a turn at being in all the places.
We worked out that we needed to take twenty four photos. The video is 24 frames long- one for each of the items on our organised list.
Luc went on to work out how many photos you would have to take to get all the combinations for six people! Can YOU work out how many photos you would need to take?

Our first Mathletics Day
Today we had our first day practising on Mathletics. We all managed to sign in easily and sort our avatars out and we were away. Lots of maths happened today in class.
Seeing there weren't enough computers for one each we all took turns.
Everyone helped everyone else.
It was fun choosing how our avatar should look.
Allanah brought her iPod Touch along for us to use as well- just like another computer really.
Remember your username and password and you can do lots of practice at home as well.
Luc showed great focus on his maths.
You will soon become maths masters, ready for the real thing next week.

Mathletics
Mathletics fortnight is almost here. This week you can practice and next week is the real thing. The idea is that with Mathletics you can log in and play maths games against heaps of other children all over the world. It will be awesome.

Korero Maori e
Today I was at Mahana School and their teacher Whaea Jane was teaching this very cool song to their senior class so I whipped my laptop open and made a quick recording.
Here are the words so you can sing along. They are easy to learn.
Korero Māori e, Korero Māori e
Korero Māori e, Korero Māori e
I ngā wa katoa, I ngā wa katoa
I te ao, i te pō
I te ao, i te pō.
We can learn it and sing it on our trip to Te Awhina Marae next week.
You play D and Em on your guitar or ukulele.

Maths Problem Solving
We have been working on Maths Problem Solving and have been using this wiki that Allanah made. At the same time Melville Intermediate made a video asking us to offer our solutions to this maths problem.
We had quite a bit of a problem with it with a variety of solutions and children are keen to find out which one was correct.
Allanah liked Georgia's solution of getting some flax from beside the river and plaiting it into a rope and pulling the canoe backwards and forwards. Excellent creativity. Here are some of the answers to the problem from all around the globe.
