Our Favourite Meal

If you could order up your favourite meal right now what would it be??

Allanah's favourite meal would be an entrĂ©e of shrimps in a bed of lettuce, followed by lamb shanks.

The lamb shanks would be all covered in rich, brown gravy and I would have some roast vegetables that I like like parsnips, potatoes and kumara and maybe some peas and corn as well.

I would have home made mint sauce with it.

To drink I would have pink sparkling grape fruit juice with strawberries floating in it.

To finish off for pudding I would have pavlova, red jelly, hundreds and thousands, Spanish cream with lashings of whipped cream on top.

What would you have has your most favourite meal?

Fireworks Book in ITunes

Our next iTunes Book has been published and is ready for download on the iTunes Book Store.

https://itunes.apple.com/nz/book/fireworks/id942796591?mt=11

This is how we put it together.

We wrote our stories in a Google Form linked from our blog

http://moturoa.blogspot.co.nz/2014/11/fireworks.html

We each took screen grabs of fireworks that we had made with the iPad App Real Fireworks.

Then we copied those stories into Book Creator.

Then we recorded our narration of the text we had written and published it in iTunes for everyone to enjoy.

Here is the book made into a video.

Here is the embed code if you want to put it on your blog.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/hnHlQZtbOV0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And here is the link you can just download and view on your iPad.

Golden Bay

This holidays we went to Takaka for 3 days. We went to Wainui Falls. It was 40 minutes each way. It was a big waterfall that came rushing down. We left at 10 am. We stopped at the salmon farming. We caught 9 salmon between us.

ColAR Magic

On our last day of Term Three we had a bit of treat colouring and bringing our creations to life using the ColAR app on the iPads.

Here is the link to the app if you would like to try it out for yourself. ColAR itself is free but you buy more of the colouring prompts as you like.

Here is a little video showing how Augmented Reality works with ColAR.

AR Dinopark

Today we had lots of fun taking dinosaur photos of ourselves using the iPad app AR Dinopark.

Here is a slideshow of our images - set to some scary dinosaur music.

Here are some of the short stories inspired by the dinosaur images...

My favourite dino is the velociraptor. They are big and ferocious. They are meat eaters and have sharp teeth.
by Zane

The famous dinosaur hunter got a phone call in 1914 about a triceratops in the Chinese jungle so he went out in his camouflage truck and began his search. Four hours later he began to hear a loud roar so he was close to it. He was actually scared.
by Mitchell

I like the tyrannosaurus. They have spikes and they are extinct. They are big and string and have very sharp teeth.
by Liam

My favourite dinosaur is the velociraptor. A velociraptor has a middle toe.
by Noah

1982. Me and my two brothers were out hunting in the jungle. We had just caught a 150 pound boar. It attracted a pack of velociraptors. Me and my brothers were fighting for our lives. One survived the fight but my brothers were killed by the vicious velociraptor so I fought that last one with my bare hands and killed it. "That's for my brothers. You beast!!!"
by Te Ranui

One day I saw a dinosaur walking along the sand. Then the dinosaur saw me and it chased me along the hot sand.
by Ethan

I was in New Zealand. I was a famous dinosaur hunter. Once I went into the desert and saw a tree. Behind it was a dinosaur. It was the most amazing thing I had seen. It looked angry. I hid behind the tree and glazed my eyes on the creature. Then it walked away and I watched the creature walk away.
by Tahana

I went back in time to the dinosaurs. I saw a T-Rex. I ran and his in a cave. I saw a pterodactyl.
by Jack

It wasn't scary at all with all those native and harmless birds in the forest. I was lost. I wasn't scared of the birds that could attack me either because I could just throw the spear I made in the woods at them. They made great food.
by Logan

I am in New Zealand. I was a famous dinosaur hunter millions of years ago. Now they are dead.
By Joe

A velociraptor was chasing me through the jungle. It was so scary. It was going to jump on me so I ran for my life. The the velociraptor jumped in the slimy swamp so I ran in the swamp too.

Exploring and Sharing

We started off the day reading the comments that people have left on the blog. Thank you people- they are much appreciated.

Today we began looking at a new app- Book Creator. I have the paid for version but you can also download a free version in which you can only make one book.

If I could only have one app on my iPad it would be this one. It has such potential for writing and sharing.

I showed the boys the very basics and let them explore adding images, video, photos, writing freehand, typing and adding audio to add as much as they could on one cover page.

I was also very proud of Zane who took it upon himself to show his classmates how to use Tellagami.

To share the app I used Reflector.app to mirror my iPad onto my laptop which was then projected onto the home class display screen.

Writing inside the Tellagami App

We used some of the backgrounds that we could write on in Tellagami and we made the app do the talking.

This one is by Riley and Jack

This one is by Ethan. We thought we had lost his story but Allanah found it. Yay.

This last one is by Matthew.

We would love to hear your feedback in the comments.

Picasso Head

Today in Dobbie's class we looked at Picasso and digital ways of making a Picasso head.

We used the Picassohead web site.

After that we blogged the picture.

Ethan's War Story

Last week Ethan made a cool war story and we thought we would publish here on its own.

Getting Tellagami to do the talking

Today we looked at the text to speech function of Tellagami. The boys could write about the storm or something of their choice if they wanted. It was great fun experimenting with the voices.

Choosing our own story topics

Today we chose our own image backgrounds to write about by searching in Google Images- and saving them on the iPads by pressing and holding the image and saving it to the Camera Roll. We also finished some of our recordings from last week.

Here are some others.....

  1. Hawks
  2. Motorcross
  3. Minecraft #1
  4. Minecraft #2

Using Tellagami to tell about our names

Today we used Tellagami on the iPads to share something about how we got our names.

We practised asking questions of each other about our names, then had a quick look at how Tellagami works, wrote down what we were going to say, practised saying it and recorded it.

That was a lot to do in 40 minutes so some of us didn't get finished. It was a great start though.

How do we feel about writing

Today we looked at how we felt about writing at home and at school.

We used a Google Form to get the results.

Then Allanah asked us to write for ten minutes about Brightwater School to see what our writing was like.
