Moturoa Monday

Today we are going to have some fun with our writing. This is a Random Story Starter. You can try your own or I will give you some random starters

Here is Marcus' story starter- 'Write a birthday party invitation for a depressed gorilla who races go-karts.'

Here is what Marcus wrote- 'I can't wait  until Jeff the gorilla gets my birthday invitation. He is really good a go-kart racing. He will be so happy because he is so depressed at the moment. His life is practically over so that's why he's coming and we are going go-karting to cheer him up.

Later in the day we are going to be learning all about bees- we are going to 'bee' using these resources...

Connected 2012

Bee Movie

Bee body parts

Hexagon Template

Hunter used the bee body parts Google Drawing that I had made to label the bee body parts.

Arthur did the same. They both did very well to log in to Google apps, copy the drawing file, label the drawing correctly and share it back with Allanah.

Here is Brooke's image too.

For news we structured our news with three frame story telling. Here is Anna's story.

And here is Sam's table tennis storytelling event.

Harrison has a broken arm so he got to use the iPad all day to do his work on. He liked that idea.

The Dot

Today we watched a video called 'The Dot' based on a book by Peter H Reynolds. Then we drew our own dots on paper and using the iPad.

Sophie is enjoying using one of Allanah's new iPad styluses.

Here are some of our dots. Click on the full screen mode on the bottom right hand corner to see our dots up close.

We are going to add them to everyone else's dots for Dot Day, 15 September.

How fabulous. We helped put Nelson and all of New Zealand on the map!

What a great collaboration!

Hoop Gliders

Today we had such fun making and trialling hoop gliders. Emily and Hunter's gliders went the furthest after we modified them.

Here are the instructions for making the hoop gliders. After we had made the basics we changed them to see if we could make them fly further.

Here is a video of us throwing the gliders.

3D Sketching

For geometry we were looking at drawing 3D shapes with Live Sketch. Lindsay had a go with the iPad and stylus. She achieved some great results.

Judah made these 3D drawings by hand as well.

Whakatu

Today we made photo collages using Pic Collage on the iPads. Today was really exciting cos we had Allanah's two iPads, her iPod Touch and a child's iPad to work with. So lots of learner had a chance to have a go.

We made the collages to go with the letters that the children are making to send to a school in Christchurch.

Today we used Pic Collage to make a collage of all the fun things that happen during reading in Kahurangi.

And then Halley recorded a sentence about the collage she had made. She used Fotobabble.

Thomas' Mum brought his two Spoodle puppies to school. They were very popular.

Super Cool Day

Today was so fun because we did awesome learning stuff like playing Lorax games on the laptops, doing e-AsTTle tests, reading on the iPad and making posters.

Astin was the first to work out the chess GUESS AND CHECK problem solving puzzle. Cassie got second.

Our Day in Moturoa Class

1. Some of us are reading the iPad app 'The Lorax' on the iPad or iPod Touch.

2. Some of us are choosing to make a Google presentation about good ideas we can think of to care for the environment.

Here is the link to the presentation so we can edit it.

2. Some of us are exploring and sharing the Lorax Project.

3. Some of us are creating a thneed advertisement.

4. Some of us are performing a Reader's Theatre of the Lorax story.

We took part of the Reader's Theatre and made a short sideshow out of it using Puppet Pals on the iPad.

Before play we watched the TED video about a really great way to help save the environment one paper towel at a time.

In the afternoon we researched some facts about dinosaurs. Allanah let us use her MacBook Air and a Chromebook so we could work together efficiently to find out the information.

Cinderella

Today we also read the Cinderella book on Allanah's iPad. We liked it because we could see ourselves in the mirror. Can you see us in the mirror?

Drawing

Today Allanah brought her new pen to school so we could draw accurately on the iPad. There wasn't enough time for everyone to have a go.

Laingdon enjoyed reading Cinderella On Allanah's iPod Touch.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality is when you use an iPad to interact with things that you can't see without an iPad.

We had some alphabet cards with animals on them that 'came alive' when we looked at them through the iPad app.

We each chose our favourite letter and animal from the AR Flashcard app.

The Boy Giant

On Tuesday Allanah read us the iPad eBook called The Boy Giant. Afterwards we all went outside and drew really big giant boys on the concrete with giant chalk. It was great to go outside in the sunshine and to draw in a way we don't get to do very often.

Help

Allanah's niece been visiting Nelson from where she lives in London. While she was here she showed her a photo of her and some friends she met while she was there. She said they were famous but Allanah didn't recognise them. Do you know who they are???
