Geometry Nets

Lots of NZ teachers seem to be learning about geometry at the moment- it's geometry time of the year! Here is a great idea someone had to make a great idea for a new kind of pizza box!

I will have a go at this one and maybe we can all make it at school tomorrow!

Basic Facts Blog

I have just come across this Maths Basic Facts Blog. The chap who wrote it has a class that is doing the same things as us. He has numbered his maths tests a little differently from mine but it's pretty close. Find the basic facts that you are working on and you will find some web sites linked to practice your skill that you need to get better, faster and stronger at! Cool bananas.

Geometry Games

We are studying Geometry at the moment. This Digital Learning Object helps you find the number of 'faces' of a shape. To use the object you will need a username and password. The username is apple34 and I have told you what the password is. If your computer has forgotten the password I will tell you it.
This Digital Object is the same but talks about different 3D shapes.
With this last game for today you have to correctly select the 3D shape.

The Working Form

We have been learning how to do the working form of adding making sure the ones, tens and hundreds are all in the right place. This website lets you write the working form and check your answers right then and there. This one will be a clever one for you to do Olivia- while you are at home getting better. Now that's one clever web site!

Tower Blaster

We play Rocket in the classroom and this game is a lot like it apart from you play against a heap of Vikings instead of a real classroom buddy. Good to play at home when your mates aren't there. In Tower Blaster you have to arrange your tower in order before the Vikings get theirs together.

Here is a bit of fun. You can make your own spirograph design by changing the radius of the pen and letting it draw the circles for you.

Maths Lines 10 is a game I am sure you will enjoy. You have to shoot the compatible number that adds to 10.

3+7=10
6+4=10
1+9=10

After a bit of practice I can get to Level Five before I lose control. What about you?

Stop The Clock

The Stop the Clock game is a little trickier because you have to match the five digital times to the clock faces and try and be real quick about it. And it counts the time in minutes.

Time For Time

I'm on a roll now. This time website can let you know the current time, digital time and you can take control of time and make the clock show the time that you want it to. I also like that it shows the movement of the sun as it crosses the sky as the day passes.

Bang On Time

Now you have had a bit of a practice with telling the time see if you can beat the clock in this game. What score can you get in ten turns? The highest score can win some house points. Westdale, Cotterill, Landsdowne, Hammond, Redwood. Tell us your score and what house you are in in the comments and we will see who wins!

PS The class competition was won by Cotterell but the overall house competition was won by Westdale. Go Westdale! Allanah K

Time

We are learning about the measurement of Time for maths and I was surprised at how many children have some difficulty telling the time on analogue and digital clock faces. Here are a couple of great sites to practice telling the time with. This first one does everything you tell it to.

This second site lets you count up as a stop-watch or count down as a countdown clock.

When we move to learning about international time zones next week and you watch our blog from some place else we would love to Skype you to ask you what the time is. If you are up for this could you let us know in the comments.

Maths Models

This maths addition basic facts site is a good one if you like fashion and dressing up. The idea is that you earn items of clothes and at the end you get a full choice of clothes and hair to dress your model.

Maths Magician

Here's another great maths basic facts site that I know you will like. You get the pick your level and then you race against the clock. All good fun and learning at the same time.
